Langham is a small rural Essex village of some 900 souls, situated north-east of Colchester. It straddles the border of the
Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and boasts a well documented history stretching back nearly 1,000 years to the
Domesday Book.
The village retains a close-knit identity. Community-led volunteer initiatives include a village shop, community centre, monthly cinema screenings, regular coffee mornings, a number of clubs, a scout group, the annual 10k road race and the renowned annual fireworks display that has run for over 50 years.
Sadly this is all now under threat thanks to Colchester City Council's expansion proposals for more than 900 new houses to be built in the large field at the heart of our village. This will effectively create a new small town, overrunning and destroying our existing community, to replace it with who knows what?
If you care about the future of our village, please join the
Langham900 campaign by sending your personal objection email to the Clerk of Langham Parish Council. Over 300 residents have already done so, but that leaves more than 500 residents still to make their feelings known.
