Ironically, communications providers can be amongst the most difficult companies to speak to if you want to report a fault or outage. Most will try to fob you off with online self-diagnostic tools! Talking to a real human being can be pretty difficult. The following phone numbers may or may not prove helpful if you reach the end of your tether:
To check what sort of broadband speed you should be able to get, Openreach now provide a website where you can check what download speed should be achievable for your postcode. All houses in the village should now be able to get a FTTC-based service ("Fibre to the Cabinet") offering download speeds in the range 30 - 60 Mbit/s. (But please do check your actual postcode to be sure!). If the postcode checker confirms that you should be able to get FTTC service, and your current Service Provider is not reliably providing this speed, you should sign up with a new Service Provider (or at least threaten to, so as to get your line speed fixed by your current Service Provider!)
